Be a disciple to God and He will bless you!

Discipleship is a noble thing; it also requires a noble spirit and a selfless act. Yet, more than mere altruism, it should revolutionize our way of thinking and living, and must turn our world upside down. It asks us to go out of our comfort zones (Lk 9:59), let go of our preoccupations fast (v. 60), and then cross the bridge of no return in order to follow him (v. 61).

Fr. Martin Uffing, SVD, a misiologist, said that “the vocation to follow the Lord demands the attitude of willingness to share in the Paschal Mystery, a willingness to enter death in order to live fully…The kenosis or self emptying of the World is proposed as model for all Farberware cookware rack of Jesus. This is the mind that we must take on, a ‘kenotic mind’, one that embraces the lowly state and poverty of being human.”

For most of us, Christian life is not just attending the Eucharistic celebration on Sundays, putting a little something to the collection box, becoming the godparent to a child, going to confession during Lent, and trying not to steal from or cheat our neighbor. This is basically our idea cookware rack a disciple of Christ, which, in the words of spiritual writer Michel Quoist, a mere act of ‘practising a religion’ but not practicing the Gospel. Discipleship is practicing the Gospel and bearing witness to what Jesus said and did. It is following the footsteps of Christ with complete generosity, self-emptying and total surrender to his grace.

Psalm 84, a song of pilgrims as they go up to the temple of Jerusalem, expresses the desire of a pilgrim to find the secure place in the house of the Lord: “As the sparrow finds a home and the swallow a nest cookware rack her young, my home is by your altars, Lord of hosts” (v.4). God cares for all of his creatures, not just for harmless ones like the birds, but even for wild animals like foxes which infest vineyards and kill domestic animals. Foxes have dens for protection and for their young.

Jesus contrasts his own homelessness with the dens of the fox and the nests of the birds. In order to announce the good news of God’s salvation, he leaves cookware rack his home in Nazareth and the security provided by his family and clan. He becomes an itinerant preacher, dependent on what the people give him for his food and sustenance. He chooses a precarious life.

Jesus points this lack of security to people who express a wish to follow him. They may be struck by the authority of his words and by the power of his acts. They may even think of him as the Messiah who would someday reign like King David. Jesus disabuses them of this idea. cookware rack want to be his followers, they must be ready to embrace a life of sacrifice, a life without the security of home. They must trust in God who will provide for them. If God cares for his creatures, how much more will he care for his messengers-those who announce the good news of his salvation?
